Black History Month During October we can deliver interactive and engaging workshops that celebrate African and Caribbean culture through creativity, song and dance. Black History Month is a busy time for us, so get in touch soon to see how we can work together. Arts and Crafts We can adapt our art and crafts workshops to cover topics that support your curriculum or areas of interest. Such as: Recycling Nature Space Identity and belonging Cultural identity Cultural dance and creative movement Our two-part dance and movement sessions involve a fun and cultural dance session with African, Caribbean, Middle Eastern movements. This is followed by a relaxing and slow-pace creative movement session using different choreographic techniques. Music and storytelling Using music, singing and storytelling our workshops will help participants to explore different cultures, memories and their identity. We can deliver sessions with: drumming singing keyboards Wellbeing We deliver wellbeing sessions that aim to create a space for participants away from their worries, unwind and relax. We use a range of techniques including: Yoga Mindfullness Relaxation Working with schools Our engaging workshops for schools will take your students on a journey where stories come to life and they learn through experience. Each workshop can be part of your school's curriculum and designed to meet your needs. Natives of the World supports women have happy, healthy and creative lives where they feel valued for the contribution they make. We work with women who have experienced persecution, trauma and inequalities to develop their confidence and increase their skills. Many of the women we work with are navigating the asylum system. The women who access our programmes are often isolated and experience low self-esteem. Many have long-term health issues, and mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress and depression. 488 women aged 18+ 100% are Black, Asian or from the global majority 15% have experienced domestic violence 92% are currently in the asylum system Over the past year we've worked with Services for adults We deliver projects and activities that help women to develop confidence, learn new skills and feel included. Healthy lives Whether it's shimmying and shaking or walking and talking our projects support healthy hearts and happy lives. Creative culture We use creativity to support women to make friends, have fun and improve access to frontline services. We learn The Afrocats Learning Lab upskills women so they can be included and start on the pathway to employment. Volunteer with Afrocats Our volunteering opportunities help women to add vital experience to their CVs and broaden their horizons. We work with diverse artists, mentoring them as they develop their creative practice We're commissioned to deliver mentoring to early career artists who are looking to develop their skills in creative facilitation with young people in schools and in community settings. We can offer mentoring support for: Participatory arts School workshops Theatre and performance art Dance and creative movement Facilitation skills Evaluation Our mentees gain an understanding of how how their artform and creativity can be used to benefit children and young people in schools, community groups and other youth settings. We work closely with our partners and networks to provide opportunities for emerging artists to develop their skills and gaining knowledge of how schools and different organisations work. Afrocats will be back at the Whitworth Art Gallery during October half term with our award winning activities for children, young people and families. We'll fill the gallery with African and Caribbean songs as well as delivering our cultural and creative arts and crafts workshops. Afrocats x Whitworth presents: Shimmy and shake through the gallery Half-term activities Each session runs from 12pm-3pm All sessions are free, drop-in, no need to book Join us for three fun-filled days and a vibrant and creative cultural experience for all ages. Shimmy and shake your way through the gallery listening to the cultural music that will echo through the galleires. The Everyday Art School will have different arts and crafts activities each day that you can attend to let your imagination run wild. Led by diverse professional artists, this event is a great opportunity to learn about and celebrate culture. The activities are designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of age or experience. All sessions are FREE, drop-in, no need to book. Everyone is welcome.
